XRPDX in Solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives
Updated: Jun 8
By Brad Greer Our members have been pounding the pavement shoulder-to-shoulder with others outraged by the death of George Floyd at the hands of police who had sworn to protect and serve; while other members have been in support through conference calls, social media posts, and other online actions. Racial equity and environmental justice are not separate issues. A knee on the neck of one of us, is a threat to us all; just as a warming planet threatens us all. The fallout from climate change will disproportionately affect people of color and those marginalized in our communities, just as they are disproportionately affected by the lethal threats of police violence, criminalization, Covid-19, and economic devastation.
We are reaching out to racial equity organizers and asking how we can support them, and we encourage others to do the same. XRPDX and the movement for black lives are working towards the common goal of safe and healthy communities for everyone. We collectively imagine a world where all people can live free from the fear of racially biased discrimination and attacks – a world where corporate greed, and the dismissal of the environment and people’s basic needs doesn’t threaten our very lives and futures. So join us in joining them. Our collective movement will flourish when we work together towards our common goals. If you're financially strapped but still want to support BlackLivesMatter, all ad revenue from the following video will go towards supporting BLM:
And, of course, there's no substitute for talking to family and friends and convincing them to move from "supporting" to actively joining the movement.
