Happy Labor Day!
One of the first things this pandemic taught us is which workers are "essential" and which are not. And it turns out the only people who are "essential" are the ones putting their health at risk to keep society running. Most of the time, they aren't getting paid extra to compensate.
The employees at the Whole Foods Market in Laurelhurst are picketing to get hazard pay. Whole Foods, owned by Amazon, has been vicious in trying to stop employees from organizing, going so far as to use heatmapping technology to track employees around the store. If the country isn't going to try to control the pandemic, hazard pay is just basic decency.
Stop by the Whole Foods at 2528 E Burnside and show the picket line your support! Just don't buy anything.
